Writing across history, culture, and folklore
An Azerbaijani-American author, educator, researcher, publisher, and U.S. Army veteran dedicated to preserving history, introducing cultures, and making complex subjects accessible to a broad audience.
Born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan, Rustam witnessed the final years of the Soviet Union and the country’s emergence as an independent nation. Those experiences shaped a lifelong interest in history, culture, identity, and the stories that connect people across generations.
After immigrating to the United States, he earned degrees in dental science, business, and education, served in the U.S. Army, and built a career spanning healthcare, education, and publishing. He currently lives in Minnesota.
As the founder of Hazar Global Press, Rustam writes books that combine historical research, cultural exploration, and engaging storytelling.
Publications
His upcoming novel, The Country I Promised You, marks his first work of fiction. Set against the backdrop of a family journey to Azerbaijan, it explores memory, identity, cultural heritage, and the bonds between generations through a story inspired by places and experiences that have shaped his life.
His writing is guided by a simple philosophy: history should be understandable, culture should be approachable, and every place has stories worth preserving. Whether examining geopolitical events, sharing centuries-old folktales, or describing everyday life in Azerbaijan, he strives to present each subject with accuracy, balance, and respect.
Rustam speaks multiple languages and enjoys international travel, historical research, photography, and documentary filmmaking. Through his books, videos, and public speaking, he hopes to build greater understanding of Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus while encouraging readers to explore the world with curiosity and an open mind.
